  • Statutory Liability
  • Employee Liability

Machinery and Electronic Breakdown

If you are dependent upon a particular machine or computer system, the last thing your business needs is a sudden breakdown. You will still need to repair or replace these items as soon as possible but we all know this is not a simple or immediate process.
By covering your machinery or electronic equipment with a policy that has been crafted to suit you and your business needs at least you can be compensated for the loss of income till they are repaired or replaced.

Business Interruption

If the unthinkable happens and an accident occurs that causes a loss of use for a business vital piece of machinery or an event beyond your control has rendered the day to day work you are involved in to be unsafe you may have to raise a claim for material damage or machinery breakdown.
It can cover against:
  • Loss of Gross Profit
  • Loss of Gross Rental Income
  • Wages and Salaries when you can’t pay them
  • Increased Costs of Working
  • Claim Preparation
Most claims can be resolved quickly and easily, and alternative methods may be found that enable you to continue doing business, However, if the claim is more serious – loss of premises for example, or replacement machinery has to come from overseas – or something calamitous has happened like a natural disaster – BI cover (sometimes called Loss Of Profits) steps in and can pay the bills and the salaries and helps cover the costs your business needs to continue operating.
Business Interruption cover is part of a business’ Risk Management strategy and a critical tool for ensuring that a company can survive after an unexpected loss. The shortest term it covers is generally 12 months, though experience shows that a particularly severe and large event – such as an earthquake – can mean a much longer interruption to trade, and therefore 18 and 24 months is recommended for many types of business operations.

UAV Insurance

UAVs and Drones are becoming increasingly sophisticated and their values – and applications – are increasing. With greater complexity comes greater Risk.

Until now it has been hard to find a comprehensive policy that can marry the two components of cover – Damage to the Unit whilst in the air and not in use and Liability, coupled with coverage against privacy breaches and other potential hazards.

As UAVs are often used in hazardous environments where it may be not safe for humans, they too can be at risk, so Underwriters have to understand the nature of their operations.

A comprehensive policy has now been developed, available to RDi clients, which gives you the peace of mind to operate your valuable machine in all kinds of situations.

Corporate Travel

Business travel is now commonplace and regardless of this being international or domestic there should be adequate cover against unforeseen events. By making sure your company has a year round policy, your employees have all the cover required, every time they need to meet a new client, bolster an existing relationship or attend an industry event or conference overseas.
Some of the most costly losses when making overseas trips occur when the airfares and accommodation are paid for, but something happens to stop you going before the insurance is taken. An annual Corporate policy can prevent this from ever becoming a problem.

Cover can be extended to family members who may need some downtime on a tropical beach, or maybe you fancy trekking through the Himalayas, whatever your destination or the reason for going there, make sure you are covered. Contact RDi to talk through your requirements and get peace of mind to book your trips.

Marine & Cargo

As an island nation, we are very dependent on the import and export of raw materials and finished goods. From Logs to baby clothes, and all points in-between, we rely on transport on the water and in the air.

Cargo cover provides protection against:

  • Theft
  • Damage
  • Loss
  • Loss of Profit
  • Average & Salvage

Marine Cargo insurance can be complex and jargon heavy; let RDi navigate around the tricky points and jagged edges to simplify the product and bring you safely to port.

Public and Products Liability

Also called General Liability or Broadform Liability, this is the most common of Liability covers – protecting you against the cost of accidents or damage to people or property that you may be liable for. If a product you sell – whether you’ve made it yourself or are buying and selling on – causes unexpected damage, you could still be liable.
Public and Product liability covers your business covers your business against payments and legal costs should your clients, contractors and the public suffer injury or damage to themselves or their property caused as a result of you or your employee’s actions or inactions.

Tradies particularly can benefit from this cover as it can include:

  • Cover Against Faulty Workmanship
  • Cover for the product being worked on (most policies exclude this)
  • Full Underground Services cover (most policies restrict this)

In New Zealand, though we have ACC cover for the victims of personal injury, there are also fines, costly legal actions, and compensation to consider, which can seriously harm the financial well being of a business.

Also, if your cover does not extend to cover your, your employees or your contractors faulty work, or cover the thing you are actually working on, then it may very well not be fit for purpose. Talk to your experienced broker at RDi to get a better understanding of what you need.

Statutory and Employer Liability Cover

However well you run your business, rules and regulations can still change and catch you out. New Zealand is one of the few places in the world that benefits from this type of cover. Tell an Australian that we can cover a company, its management and employees against allegations and verdicts of wrongful breaches of legislation, and pay most types of fines and normally all legal costs involved, and they will be amazed.

It Covers:

  • Defence costs from breaches of the Building Act, Fair Trading Act Privacy Act etc
  • Legal representation, including for investigations and inquiries
  • Most Fines or cash penalties imposed by Government or quasi-government bodies (except for the Health and Safety Act)

Companies, Directors and Officers can take this relatively low cost cover to afford themselves peace of mind should they be in breach of most legislation (except police prosecutions and taxation.)

Statutory Liability Insurance is an important cover for all businesses, and for none more so than sole traders and partnerships who do not have the protection of a limited company and whose personal assets can be at risk.
Ensure your business can survive most fines and legal expenses related to them by taking this cost effective insurance cover.

Talk to RDi to ensure that you have cover in place that protects your livelihood.

Employee Liability

Though NZ employees are well protected by ACC, employees can still sue their employer for injury and stress that falls outside of the 1992 ARCI Act. This includes allegations of recklessness by the Employing company and directors, and often means a lump sum payment to the victim.

ACC excludes payouts for Melanoma, Repetitive Strain Injury and Occupational Overuse Syndrome, as well as chronic stress that can be diagnosed by doctors.

Employee Liability can protect a business from claims of this nature and ensure it continues to operate successfully.

Employee Dishonesty and Crime

Some of the worst losses sustained by business are at the hands of those they most trust – their employees.

Employee Dishonesty – also called Fidelity or Crime cover, provides cover against theft – both one off or long term – by employees, particularly for:

  • Monies
  • Securities
  • Cheques
  • Business Assets

Policies covering Employee fraud have changed greatly over the years. Up to 10 years ago, they generally only were willing to pay out if a successful prosecution was launched against an alleged offender – something that was very hard to do unless the loss ran into millions of dollars.

Now, many policies are triggered as long as a loss can be proved, without the time and expense of a trial, with all of it’s implications.

Fraud can be perpetrated for many reasons, and often is very hard to identify. The employee may be exemplary, hard working, long standing and trusted. But a change in their life circumstances, the pressing needs of a loved one, or a hidden addiction like gambling, may be the catalyst for fraudulent activity.

Getting the right cover in this area could be crucial for your business’s survival. Talk to RDi will see you in the right direction.

Directors and Officers

Directors and Officers cover protects Directors, Officers and Board members against their personal legal liability as a result of their position in a business, Association, Society, Charity, Not for Profit or other organisation.

It provides cover for claims brought against them by:

  • Shareholders suing for neglect or misleading statements and prospectuses or other damage
  • Employees suing for wrongful dismissal and harassment claims etc
  • Government and other institutions
  • The competition
  • The business or organisation, including Receivers and Liquidator representing it

A Director, or member of a Board, even a Trustee of a Society, Association, Charity or Not For Profit, can have the most serious exposure to the failings of a business or organisation, without necessarily being aware of it personally. As the law does not recognise ignorance as a defence, it is essential that they should have Insurance cover that protects them if problems arise.

RDi has the knowledge and expertise within the market to ensure that cover can be put in place to guard from the consequences of poor business practises that may be occurring without any knowledge.

Cyber Cover

Everything is internet based, pc based or stored online in cloud servers these days. Probably your client records, invoicing and accounting details are, as well as a heap of other important files. If they are not stored online then there is no doubt that a local pc or laptop has the information on. This is common for businesses that need to share information, either with off site workers or between departments. With IT security being an easier target than a physical robbery we have to take steps to safeguard ourselves against losing access to these files in the same way we safeguard ourselves against loss of a physical asset.
Cyber criminals who could be hackers or perhaps a distant ransomware distributor knows this – and they’ll probably ask you to pay them to unlock it again.

Insurance has evolved to cover these new threats.
